STUDENT'S DIARY.
My uncle Mr. Maritim, who works at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital hates it when Monday, the 1st day of the week is at the doorstep and loves it when Fridays are around the corner. Come to think of it, everyone has a day that he/she looks forward to and a day that if wishes were roses, then it would be wished that it never existed in a week's calender. Here is an average diary of a student in a week.

THE POWER OF COMRADESHIP.
They moved like a flowing river, each chanting and shouting as loud as possible as if trying to chase some demons. As the trek to the Administration block from the Students Center continued, the crowd grew bigger and bigger. "We want VC, we want VC,"went on the furious crowd.
The Monday morning demonstration marked 'day 2' of the demonstration from the Moi University Students' body. This happened after the lifeless body of a young 3rd year lady named Charity Maina was found dumped in a thicket and word had it that she was raped and murdered the night before Sunday.
The trek ended at the front of Administration block, with students eagerly waiting for the Vice Chancellor to adress them. Other leaders tried to adress the students but their words fell on deaf ears, for the students wanted no other person than the VC, Pof. Mibey to adress them. Failure of the VC to adress them sent them into an unruly state and woe unto the stage business persons for their businesses were in for a destruction. The students then rushed over to stage, where they tried to destroy some business stalls and shops there resulting in a stone throwing exchange between the business persons and the students' body. It was after a couple of hours that everything settled back to normal.
It is not a surprise that we almost starved, since all shops and stalls were closed as the demonstration took place. The administrators had all locked their offices for fear of being attacked, the library was closed and no lecturer dared go for a lecture. How then can the power of comradeship not be noticed?

ROMANCE HIGHWAY.
Two silhouettes appeared out of the darkness and a closer look brought out the shape of a male and a female. I continued trekking and more silhouettes of pairs came into view. I was on my way to SOWETO from hostel K, going to one of the hostels, a friend of mine's room to pick something. It was already 10pm and should have been on my journey to dreamland but the urgency of that "something" forced me to give no 2nd thought to the long trek. Furthermore, it was on a Saturday and students are mostly indoors, probably watching or chit-chatting with friends if not dead asleep. I was beginning to get worried since it was only I who walked all alone, exempting my shadow of course and it was later that my pal told me that the path had a name, coined to refer to it because its a routine for pairs to walk down the path especially over the weekend. "Romance highway or mapenzi highway" is the so-called name and i think a very creative person came up with that name for a reason.
She further explained to me that these pairs seem to be having a special conversation without any disturbance and that the path provides a conducive environment for that because it is less traveled on compared to the other paths. These pairs are mostly termed as lovers, boy/girlfriends because non verbal body communications speak volumes. So the next time you walk down that road, try putting into observation what i am talking about.

DEATH, A MERCILESS SNATCHER.
Its Sunday dawn, residents of Moi University are woken up by
the birds chirping in unison to welcome the new day. Sooner than later, the
institution is bustling with life, students getting ready to go to church without
the knowledge that death hung high in the sky and that a lifeless body lay
somewhere out there in the cold. The body of one of the lady students of the
institution named
Charity Maina, a 3rd year pursuing a course in
Arts and Social Sciences. The student was killed in a beastly manner; raped
then killed by unknown persons (of course a resident of the institution) and I do
call upon the Heavens for intervention here for I am a Christian and God alone
is to judge this inhuman act.
A couple of hours later, the students could not help it but demonstrate
and the campus was filled with lamentations and all sorts of noise all
demanding for justice. Kesses police station policemen arrived to calm the
situation but found themselves pressed between a wall and a hard place
prompting them to flee for dear life. They fled leaving behind a land rover at
the mercy of the students who decided to go for the phrase “ashes for ashes” and all that was left
of the vehicle was a hard, unrecognizable metal, probably of use to the juakali
artisans.
A friend of mine was already at Eldoret town, heading back
to campus from a short vacation and I pitied her since she was not going to
alight at the main stage (credit goes to the students for blocking the road
with different shapes and sizes of stones)The body of our departed comrade is
currently at Moi Referral Hospital for a postmortem. A somber mood still hangs
within the institution, each student keeping his/her thoughts to
himself/herself but one thing remains clear, it’s our wish that the culprits
are apprehended and dealt with accordingly by the responsible authority.
My question is, do
you think the current state of security within the institution is wanting?
R.I.P. departed comrade.

FIRE MYSTERY
| THE BURNT C HOUSES FENCE |
Dark, soft soot and leafless branches pointing into the sky is all that is left of the few branches of the well-kept cypress trees fence that got burnt yesterday night at C houses. These houses are located west of Moi University's administration block, near Cheboiywa Center(commonly known as "Mabs" and a stroll around the area brings into view beautifully tended fence all around the blocks of houses.
The fire occurred at around 8 pm causing students residing there to get into a state of panic and luckily enough, the fire was put out after about 1 hour having caused no major destruction. MUSO(Moi University Students' Organisation) chair, Mr. Omondi and the Security and Accommodations director, Mr. Guyo were among those who witnessed the impacts of the rising flames.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery but rumour has it that one of the resident students lit the fire due to unbearable situations that students there are going through more especially power blackout that has been going on for a period of 3 days.

TELEVISION SHUTDOWN AFTERMATH
I can not believe that this is happening yet again. I am
just so bored, or is it that bad luck is my second shadow. i am so bored right
now. I could not watch my favourite soap opera, Mentir Para Vivir last week
because of some power blackout in my room, and now that the problem has been
solved, the channel,Citizen TV that airs it daily as from 8pm has been shutdown
by the Communications Authority of Kenya for transmission of analogue signals.
Everybody, including me loves a change and that is why we are all looking
forward to vision 2030, an era where almost everything is digitized but this
case is different altogether. As i wake up every morning, i bow down for a word
of prayer, with the hope that something great is in store for me and that by
evening, i will be seated in front of the screen, catching up on my favourite
program. Anyway, all hope is not lost, for tomorrow seems quite promising,
infact,i am waiting for 'tomorrow' with so much zeal and anxiety as the clock
ticks with the passage of time, who knows, it may be my lucky day.

FUNNY WORLD
A man once sent money amounting to ksh10,000 to the wrong number. He then decided to come up with a story so as to outwit the other person and also avoid any hectic procedures so as to get the money back. He immediately sent him the following text "Hi welcome to the world of devil worshiping, you have received the cash as introduction token. Come to Nairobi for the initial ceremony of joining our society scheduled to happen at Freemason Hall, State House road at 4am. That was a small amount of money but more riches are awaiting you. Please don't be late because the DEVIL himself is presiding over the ceremony. If you fail to turn up and use that money, you will be recruited automatically."
After about 2 minutes, the money was sent back, plus an addition used to withdraw that amount.
